What is an LED?

LED stands for Light Emitting Dioide. Unlike traditional lighting technologies which typically heat up Mercury molecules to emitt UV light. LEDs on the other hand create light simply from the movement of electrons through a semi-conductor material. Due to the fact LEDs have no fillament to heat and use, it results in cooler operating temperatures and longer lifetimes.

What are the benefits of LED's?

There are many benefits of using an LED light instead of traditional lighting technologies these including longer lifetimes, lower maintenance requirements, much lower power consumption and reduced temperature output from the bulb.

Do LED's use less power?

YES! LED's will draw less power from a circuit than other lighting technologies. For example a typical fluoresent 2ft T8 tube will be rated at 18Watts but when switched on the power drawn will actually be 26Watts, the equivalent LED form will draw only 9Watts. This difference is down to the fact that traditional fluorescent lights need a ballast installed in the fixture to filter the power into the light which results in power being lost on the circuit (typically 8 watts per tube). An LED instead features a driver inside the actual light bulb to do the same job but much more efficiently!

Do LED's give off less heat?

YES! LED’s do not need to heat up a filament and therefore do not need power to heat anything which results in the high operating temperatures associated with older lighting technologies. In an environment such as an office where multiple lights are used in a small space having reduced heat output from your lighting will in fact mean less air conditioning is needed resulting again in futher savings on your energy bill.

Do your LED's retrofit our existing fittings?

Yes, for the majority all our products have been designed to be fitted easily into existing fittings although please note with some older fixtures so small modifications may be needed.
